1 June 2017 | Three Volvo companies combine forces

Three of the Volvo Group’s companies are sharing the largest stand at Elmia Wood in the new Load & Transport section.

“It’s the first time we’re doing such a campaign in Sweden,” says Lisa Arwenhielm, who is in charge of the Group’s participation at the fair.

The three companies are Volvo Penta, Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE) and Volvo Trucks. The last-mentioned is an obvious presence in the forest industry and at forestry fairs with its timber trucks. VCE also has a solid forest pedigree, with its loaders and excavators doing earthmoving work, building forest roads and working at timber yards. Volvo Penta is a world-leading supplier of engines for industrial and marine use.

Last year Volvo Penta signed agreements with several manufacturers of forest machines. First was Eco Log, where Volvo Penta is supplying its D8 engine for four harvesters in the new E series. At Elmia Wood Eco Log is presenting these harvesters equipped with Volvo’s efficient diesel engines.

Volvo Penta and Rottne
Last autumn a second deal was reached – this time with Rottne, which has switched to Volvo Penta for its eight-wheeled forwarder, the Rottne F15. The switch has enabled both Eco Log and Rottne to offer longer service intervals and efficient engines in the environmental categories demanded by the international forest industry.

“At the fair Volvo Penta is exhibiting a D16 engine for very heavy operations such as wood chipping. The D8 will also be there,” Arwenhielm says.

Volvo Trucks is participating with two vehicles. The first is a wood chip truck from Volvo’s new FH series equipped with a 540 hp engine, the I-Shift automatic gearbox with dual clutch and the highly reputed Globetrotter XL cab. The second is a special version of a timber truck

The timber truck is a Volvo FH16 Ocean Race Edition, which means that its upholstery, mats, grab handles and door panels are inspired by the Volvo Ocean Race. The hardware includes a 750 hp D16 engine, I-Shift automatic gearbox with creeper gears, tandem axle lift for reduced fuel consumption when driving without a load, and Volvo Dynamic Steering, which gives perfect stability at high speeds.

Volvo is also exhibiting its L180H high-lift wheel loader with a log grapple, the L150H with a log grapple, and the L120H with a bucket. There will also be two excavators with accessories – the powerful ECR235EL and the ECR88D compact excavator. In addition to the equipment on the machines, additional buckets will be exhibited to show the breadth of possible uses.

The machines listed above were confirmed for inclusion in the large shared Volvo stand as of the beginning of May. It is clear that Volvo is investing in a strong presence so there will be additional machines, services and activities when Elmia Wood opens.
