Enviva launches one-of-a-kind wood supply tracking system

Enviva Holdings, LP (“Enviva”) publicly released the first data from its groundbreaking Track & Trace (T&T) program.

T&T is a proprietary system that enables Enviva to track every truckload of wood the company procures from the forest back to its source, providing a detailed understanding of the characteristics of the wood the company uses. Demonstrating an unmatched commitment to transparency, Enviva is now making that information available to the public.

“Enviva’s sustainably produced wood pellets provide a cleaner energy alternative to fossil fuels, allowing electric utilities to replace coal and reduce the greenhouse gas intensity of energy generation while providing uninterrupted and dispatchable renewable energy that is there when customers need it,” said John Keppler, Chairman and CEO of Enviva. “With our Track & Trace program, Enviva maintains unprecedented data on our wood supply chain, driving sustainable procurement activities and helping us demonstrate and verify our commitment to forest sustainability while creating jobs and supporting economic growth in the American Southeast.”

Enviva Holdings, LP is the world’s largest producer of wood pellets, a renewable and sustainable energy source used to generate electricity and heat. Through its subsidiaries, Enviva Holdings, LP owns and operates plants in the southeastern United States that produce nearly 3 million metric tons of wood pellets annually.

The new Multistar One screen

The new Multistar One screen makes waste wood and biomass processing highly efficient. An upstream Crambo or Terminator handles the shredding. The new One then separates out a defined useful fraction while returning overlengths to the shredder.

The combination of Crambo shredder and Multistar screen has proven its value many times, and now it’s better than ever: The new Multistar One is configured to avoid overlengths and precisely limit the particle size of the Crambo output. The primary application is waste wood processing, but green cuttings (“woody biomass”), rootstocks, forestry residue, bark etc. can also be processed into a saleable product in one pass.

Weyerhaeuser completes sale of Cellulose Fibers pulp mills to International Paper

Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) recently announced the completion of the sale of its Cellulose Fibers pulp mills to International Paper for $2.2 billion in cash. Weyerhaeuser expects to use a substantial portion of the $1.6 billion after-tax proceeds for repayment of debt.

The sale, which was announced in May 2016, includes five pulp mills located in Columbus, Miss.; Flint River, Ga.; New Bern, N.C.; Port Wentworth, Ga. and Grand Prairie, Alberta, with a combined total annual operating capacity of about 1.9 million metric tons. The sale also includes two modified fiber mills in Columbus, Miss. and Gdansk, Poland.

This transaction completes the divestiture of Weyerhaeuser’s Cellulose Fibers business, which resulted from the company’s strategic review initiated in November 2015. Earlier this year, the company completed the sale of its liquid packaging board business to Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. and the sale of its publishing papers business to One Rock Capital Partners, LLC.

“The sale of our pulp mills delivers compelling value for our shareholders and represents a significant milestone on our journey to focus our portfolio and become the world’s premier timber, land, and forest products company,” said Doyle R. Simons, president and chief executive officer. “International Paper is gaining world-class mills and a highly regarded team of employees who will be well-positioned to reach their full potential as part of a first-class packaging, pulp and paper manufacturer.”
